Smart move from a career perspective, IMO. Last year was a down year for him. I don't think he'd be able to play himself off next year's team, so it's not like it's his only chance to make some money.
If he gets traded, becomes a starter, and puts up good numbers, his leverage bodes well for a better contract.
Does anyone think that Heisey is ever going to land a starting job anywhere?
He's Reds' property until 2017. If I was him, I wouldn't mind signing a 2 year deal. I just can't see him making himself that much more valuable to an arbitrator next year.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe Chris thinks that going year to year will hasten a trade out of Cincy? I'd grab some security if I was Chris.
(Even though backup OF seldom have career ending injuries)
Heisey is Just another Denorfria... Something the Reds are very good at producing.
