Re: 2006 Draft signings thread
30th rounder LHP Lee Tabor, is now showing on the GCL roster.
FLORENCE -- Left-handed pitcher Lee Tabor, who helped lead Francis Marion University to the NCAA Division II College World Series this past season, recently signed a professional contract with the Cincinnati Reds and reported to the organization's rookie team in Sarasota, Fla.
Tabor was chosen as the eighth pick in the 30th round of Major League Baseball's 2006 first-year player draft on June 7. He chose to sign with the Reds rather than return to Francis Marion for his senior campaign.
The Sarasota squad competes in the Gulf Coast League and opens its season on Tuesday (June 20). The GCL schedule runs through Aug. 21. Tabor will join a staff that includes right-hander Nick Wandless, who recently finished his career at USC Aiken.
This past season, Tabor posted an 8-5 record with a 3.19 earned run average. He completed eight of 16 starts with one shutout, and ranked among the NCAA Division II leaders in strikeouts with 118 in 115 2/3 innings. Opponents batted only .238 against him.
The Manning native helped lead the Patriots to their most successful season ever with a 41-18 record, earning a No. 6 national ranking, and making the College World Series appearance.
An honorable mention All-American in 2005, he compiled an 18-10 career mark with a 2.84 ERA in three seasons at FMU. He fanned 230 batters in 243.2 innings.
Tabor is the fourth FMU player to be drafted over the past five years. Outfielder Quentin Davis (.278 avg., 17 stolen bases) is currently playing for the Class A Rome Braves.
Tabor was also playing this summer for the Florence RedWolves, with his last appearance coming in last Tuesday's game at Asheboro.
FYI, Chris Gruler is also now on the roster.
