Smoltz either in the pen or rotation wouldn't help the Reds.
And the fact that Renteria is out OPSing FeLo .840-ish to .760-ish wouldn't matter, either. Nor would Renteria's glove at SS be an upgrade.
And as far as the laughing, I don't think the Braves should be doing much laughing at anyone. The Schuerholz-Cox duo is currently in last place in their division, behind the $15 million Marlins, and the historically woeful Phillies and Expos/Nationals. Meanwhile, a roster largely constructed by Dan O'Brien and managed by Jerry Narron is leading the wildcard race.
I'd be more than happy to point that out if Schuerholz got giggly on the phone.
