Look for Votto to split time with the Hat next year as soon as the Hat starts to struggle a bit. I agree that the Hat will most likely be trade bait come July, with Votto taking over at 1B full time soon after.
Do the Reds really have three top twenty prospects in all of baseball? It certainly appears that way!
While i think votto is a fine prospect, I can name 20 off the top of my head I take before him... no disrespect to votto, but he's not a top 20 in all of baseball.
That said, I think with Bailey, Bruce, Cueto, Wood, Stubbs, and the re-emergence of Votto, our farm system is in the best shape its been in in years. Where is Obispo?
Add in guys like Sam Lecure, Chris Valakia, Logan Parker, Milton Loo, Sean Watson, Tyler Pelland, Phil Dumatrait, even guys like Philippe Valiquette and Rafael Gonzalez who are high risk high celing types.. and what about relievers Carlos Guevara & David Shafer & Calvin Medlock? They are projected as relievers, but they've all done very well this year and could add something to the big league club. I really wish the Reds wouldn't have converted Shafer to a BP guy - he has very good control and a good K rate throughout his career. I'm a firm believer in giving a guy who can start every opportunity as a starter until he fails... then put him in the pen..
Meh, bottom line is we should start seeing some of this talent emerging over the next couple of years. And my point in naming all those guys above is that even though the rest don't project as stars, they all have value & bring something good to the table.. and depth to the system. It will be nice to see the fruits of our labor, especially a pitching prospect. Its a shame we traded Ward - Brandon Webb clone and taylor made for GAB - although Lohse has been a pleasant surprise so far.
