Again, I'm not a huge fan of Zone Rating, but it has its uses. In 2006, Edwin has the worst fielding percentage of any regular third baseman and tied for the worst Zone Rating. It's one thing if you have problems with the balls you get to, but it's another if you aren't getting to as many as you should. Edwin fares a bit better in John Dewan's Fielding Bible, but I think there's cause for concern.
You're probably right, he likely deserves another year to prove himself, but I just don't think he can handle it. His bat will play anywhere and I'm not sure that we can afford to carry three of the worst fielders (Dunn, Griffey, Edwin) respectively at their positions in 2007.
I want this team improved in 2007, but given it's current configuration, I think we are limited in how much we can really improve unless we commit to making substantial changes.
