Re: Throwing FA names around..
Let me first say, Mario-Rijo, that this is a fantastic post. I'm really impressed by your thorough analysis of all of these players. I think Baez would make a lot of sense for the Reds, and I think we are as likley as any team to sign him. I was, however, wondering what other people thought about the two FA hitters you suggest: Millar and Stewart.
Personally, I wouldn't mind signing Kevin Millar. His name doesn't exactly knock your socks off, but he's a solid veteran presence who could platoon with Hatte or provide some pop off the bench.
Shannon Stewart is a different story in my book. I actually really liked his game about five or six years ago--a speedy OF with good defense and surprising pop. He had an amazing second half with the Twins a couple of years ago that even had some people talking AL MVP. However, he's turned into a bit of an albatross recently, and seems to be injured more than he is on the field. If he stayed healthy, he'd be a significant upgrade over Jr. in CF, but that seems to be quite a big if.
My own secret hope is that Krivksy will find a way to land Vernon Wells and Bengie Molina. That would be a dream defense up the middle and would really upgrade our overall support of our pitchers... but I know that will never happen.
