It's perpetually interesting to me that so many baseball managers are former catchers. It makes so much sense really: they have to know how to communicate, they have to have a deep understanding of every aspect of the game -- all the details of pitching and hitting, they have to be aware of everything that's happening on the field at any given moment...and still play offense and defense too.
