I can't (and refuse to) imagine that the lack of transactions is motivated by giving the interim manager the best shot to win the job. Since Fay admits that it's strictly conjecture on his part, I advise against putting any stock in this notion.
If there's any truth in this line of reasoning, my own conjecture is that Krivsky is standing pat to win now because he believes he won't be around next season. Thus his success this season will determine whether he ever gets considered for a GM job elsewhere.
