Posey's an interesting case. He has a good chance at being an above-average MLB catcher at most everything, but he doesn't have that one standout plus-plus skill. He probably won't hit more than 15-20 homers but I think folks are underrating his ability to hit for average in the pros. Think of him as Joe Mauer Lite. Matt Weiters is supposed to have more power potential, which is why folks like his so-called ultimate upside better.
As for Mesoraco, the scarcity of catchers and the difficulty of developing them presents a quandary: Grab one you think will be good any chance you can, versus treating them like pitchers and take them in bulk later in the draft and see which seeds sprout. I'm not sure there's a right answer, I just hope they were right about DM.
