Re: English Premier League 2008/9
The latest news is that Chelsea have a bid in for Robinho (and that Real Madrid may accept it and then pluck Ricardo Quaresma from Sporting Lisbon, which strikes this Real fan as a fine idea).
Supposedly Gareth Barry to Liverpool is off and there are rumors that Arsenal may get in on him. He's exactly what the Gunners needs. He's even English. There's also some talk that Arsenal may go after Xabi Alonso, giving Liverpool the scratch it needs to close the deal on Barry.
Everton has a bid in on Rennes defensive midfielder Stephane Mbia. Sporting continues to insist Joao Moutinho isn't going anywhere and that Everton have yet to make a second formal bid (Moutinho insists he wants out). Moutinho and Mbia would give the Toffees a dynamite central midfield.
Valencia may put in a bid for Luis Saha after selling Nicola Zigic to Stoke (good to see signs of life at Stoke, but I've got Zigic pegged as a washout).
Tottenham continues to chase Andrei Arshavin. There's also talk that Spurs may swoop in for right back Vedran Corluka at Man City, which one would have to assume means that Mark Hughes plans to spend that money on some fresh talent.
Both West Brom and Hull are after Bolton defender Abdoulaye Meite.
Villa landed Nick Shorey at left back and Middlesborough's Luke Young at right back, two excellent and necessary buys. Borough is supposedly after Arsenal's Justin Hoyte (buried deep on the Gunners bench) as Young's replacement.
