First off, the reports of Dunn's desire to play only left field (if true) came years ago, before Dusty Baker was ever a Red. So, if it's true, it has nothing whatsoever to do with Baker.
Secondly, this year the Reds had Joey Votto at first, so there wouldn't have been a call for Dunn to play first base. (I guess Dunn could have been asked to play shortstop when Kepp had his injury, but they didn't think of it.)
Third -- and this is the main point -- if Dunn did refuse to play other positions it is not an "indictment" of Reds management. If true, it is Dunn who should be criticized.
And fourth -- almost every player when he moves to a contender in late season says "I'll play anywhere, do anything." You can't move to a contender in August and expect your exact status to be maintained with the new team. We'll see if Dunn is open to new positions when he negotiates as a free agent.
