It is pretty hard to avoid having a top farm system when you have a top-five pick every year for a decade.
Top five in the first round, top five in the second round (almost like getting another first rounder), top five in the third round...
Getting great prospects in the draft every year is a great way to make a front office look smart. That is how they can be so foolish as to lose a super-stud like Josh Hamilton for nothing and still have lots of talent to spare.
Since the Reds have not gotten top-five picks at nearly the rate of the Rays it really isn't feasible to expect the Reds to follow the Rays' "model" with any hope of success.
