Re: Do violent games really lead to real world violence?
When I was in grad school, I took a course from a wizened professor whose life's work had been compiling and doing research on whether media caused people to act in violent ways. His compilation, which was required reading in his required course, showed that there were plenty of studies showing that media did not cause violent behavior, and a slightly higher number of studies showing that it did.
I can't help but think that games, an even more immersive medium than TV, radio and films would produce similar results in studies. The fact that either side of the argument can be proven with research is what prevents regulation on violent content in media. I assume the same tug-of-war and inertia would apply to games.
