The mountains in SE Ky, especially in Harlan County, are bigger and steeper than the one's on the show. The one's on the show were more rolling hills than mountains. Also the town didn't look like Harlan but I guess that doesn't matter that much to the average person watching it. I'm not sure I have ever heard of any rocket launchers down there either. That was kind of odd I thought for someone in a rural area like that to have one of those. I thought Timothy Olyphant was really good. Very Clint Eatwood like. The others were pretty average. I may watch another episode or two but beyond that I probably won't watch.
It seems they switched back and forth between Lexington and Harlan County a lot so I wasn't sure where all the stuff took place. When thery blew up that church, it seemed like it was in a city rather than a rural place. It also seemed like they had him going back and forth between Lexington and Harlan County quite a bit like he was going back and forth between Cincy and Dayton.
It might have been that the logistics of filming on location were too difficult. I'm sure it would have been a bit more authentic to film there or in a place like it but probably not too realistic for the actors and production crew.
