Re: Dayton Dragons: Breaking Down the First Basemen for 2010

camisadelgolf, you must have known something. I am hearing that the player in the low minors that has really helped his cause this spring is Donald Lutz and that he is now in the running for the starting first base job in Dayton after jumping ahead of some of the other candidates. I do not know much about this player. He had a decent first season in 2008 but then the bottom dropped out in '09 in the GCL, although total at-bats were low. Wonder if there was an injury. He managed to hit for the cycle in one game, and that represented 40 percent of the total hits he had for the year and more than 50 percent of his total bases.

A scout told me he liked this player. Born in New York, lives in Germany. Does anyone know anything more about him?

Edit: I see he broke his wrist in July of last season and is a dual citizen of the US and Germany. Father is American, mother is German. Has some international experience with TEAM GERMANY.

Also, note from the preview above that Derrick Lowery was in the mix. Lowery has been converted to pitcher after some fielding struggles at first base this spring.
