Listening to Marty with the ESPN guys last night was fun. Having 3 men in the booth really livens things up and Marty is much easier on the ears when he breaks out of his cynicism.
Thom on the other hand is just way too much of a generalist. You can tell he's called games for many teams and in many sports. He's always playing peacemaker, speaking in generalities, and not really playing well to the flow of the game.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
