Obviously that was just a generalization. Like I said, Votto is a good enough athlete and professional, that if he worked on it this winter, he could be passable by spring.
He makes a better first baseman, but considering the situation, the Reds defense would be better with Votto in left and Alonso at first, rather than the other way around.
