FWIW, Jose Reyes never really hit for power in the minors, with just 13 HR in 1448 PA (1 per 111 PA). The bulk of his SLG came from doubles and triples.
If I understand correctly, Hamilton is built similarly -- though has yet to fill out any. He's not quite as young as Reyes was and has shown even less HR power (1 per 230), but the point remains. You can be an extremely productive player without hitting more than a handful of homers if you're hitting doubles and triples by the bucketful.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
