It was Miss MacKay's fault! First she warns him about the puck in a way that was just begging for misunderstanding given the circumstances. Then Tibbles wakes up and makes a completely irrational remark as if he's in a fast food line, clearly displaying severe concussion like symptoms. MacKay, feeling guilty about her misdeeds earlier, downplays any health risk and asserts that Tibbles will be perfectly fine. That movie engendered a cavalier attitude towards head injuries that I think we're still paying for.
