Re: Chapman (POLL)
Cap is a no-brainer-- the ultimate leader plus he has the Super Soldier Serum. He's a lock. A true ace with few questions. (Though, to be fair, I could see where overuse of his body breaks him down. I mean, just how many years does he have? And he's going full-tilt boogie all the time. Regressing to the mean should be expected-- and soon, IMO.) Still, the leadership is there, no matter what sabrecomtricians might say. He's in.
Same for Iron Man. I realize he's a human in a world that may need more power, but that suit is a difference-maker. He's got some serious power in that thing. And none of this mentions his best strength-- his brain. However, I do question his off-the-field antics-- alcoholism and hundreds of women parading through his apartments and houses plus the daily microscope of the media-- at least Cincinnati isn't a large city. Perhaps the media won't be as intense here?
Thor's a powerhouse, but he's got split allegiances. Can you really trust him? Is his recent (i.e., last 20-40 years) past enough to offset all those centuries of focusing only on his home world? No question he's got the goods-- monster power, great track record. But he is a bit long in the tooth. What is he, 1,700 years old? Maybe more. He's a veteran and he battles. Therefore, I think you have to keep him.
This is where things get tricky. You have to go with the Black Widow, I think, simply because she's been there before. And she's a girl. You have to switch things up in a good rotation. She's a great strategist, an underrated fighter, and a deadeye shooter. Great control. She also had a great year last season. Fought the Hulk and came away relatively unscathed, then took on Loki and the Ultimate Skrulls.
So now you're down to the last spot. Hawkeye's got a phenomenal history, Matt Fraction, and unerring accuracy with a bow and arrow. But he's a hothead, and he can't really fight all that well. He's also not a real team player, and you've got to have a fifth starter willing to acquiesce to the team. What if Baker wants him to spot start-- is Clint going to go all primadonna and demand his own team? Is he going to demand a trade to the West Coast? Too, he's got a messy divorce in his past. Might not be a great fit.
OTOH, Chapman's got a 100 mph fastball. He's also got a devastating slider and his control last season was outstanding. He's also Cuban, which could really improve international questions, as Cap and Stark are both American, Natasha is a Russian emigree, and Thor's from another world. Might need another former Socialist on the team.
Personally, I'd go with Chapman. More upside.
