I'd heard the same statistic (though, I'd heard it was OSU, Texas and Alabama) a few years back.
I'd bet that the explosion in television rights over the last few years has changed the calculus a little bit. The most recent data I can find is from 2008, and it looks like a lot of people roughly breaking even and a ton more losing money: http://espn.go.com/ncaa/revenue
