His trade value is determined by two factors:
1. How does he help the team he is currently on?
2. What are other teams willing to offer for him?
When 2 is greater than 1, you trade the player.
I think it's clear that 2 is greater than 1 for the Padres here if the Reds offered a minor league bullpen arm or an equal prospect.
