Cabrera is only 5 months old than Votto. Cabrera had over 800 hits, including 134 HRs, before Votto had a major league plate appearance. Cabrera has a decent shot at reaching 2000 hits this year -- in his age 30 season. Votto has a decent shot at 1000.
That has basically no bearing on this conversation, but I thought it was pretty cool.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
