Re: Minor-League Player of the Day
Tuesday, June 18: Jesse Winker, Dayton . . . Won the home-run-hitting contest (10) before the Midwest League all-star game in Dayton. Hey, that's more memorable than somebody's 3 for 4, isn't it? He also got a mention on the Reds' telecast.*
Also notable . . .
Neftali Soto: 3-4, HR (8), 2 RBI.
Emmanuel Burriss: 3-5.
Nevin Ashley: 2-3, 2B, RBI.
Denis Phipps: 2-4, 2B, RBI.
Yohan Pino: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. ERA 2.32. Having quite a year in a variety of roles.
Zach Duke: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, Sv (2). Nice to see him overmatching AAA. Hasn't allowed a baserunner yet.
Zach Vincej (all-star game): 1-2, RBI.
Jose Salas (Rojos): 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. He's an 18-year-old right-hander.
Francis Azcona: 2-3, 3B, BB. The young second baseman is fast becoming a regular here.
Daniel Jimenez: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R. A 17-year-old right fielder.
* Welsh also said that Corky is throwing knuckleballs. Didn't realize that. He just gets cooler.
