If you can't do that, I've done this going to Europe (on flights that arrive in the morning, Europe time). I stay up just about all night so that I'm exhausted on the plane, and can actually sleep on the plane. Then when the plane arrives, you've gotten some rest, and you are already shifted over in your schedule.
Whatever you do, avoid the temptation to take a nap in the afternoon when you arrive. That will just screw you up more. Stay up during the daytime at all costs. At worse, you feel bad only one day there. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I've used the same tactic that Redread described for flights to Europe and it worked out OK for me (keep in mind, I'm traveling from California). I've only been to Asia (Hong Kong) one time and wilted like a cut flower in the sun so I'm not sure how to approach that area.
