Another good young arm is available as the Mariners have designated RHP Marcos Carvajal for assignment.
Marcos Carvajal - R - Mariners
Mariners designated RHP Marcos Carvajal for assignment.
We're stunned. Carvajal, a 21-year-old reliever picked up from the Rockies for Yorvit Torrealba, has the potential to become an excellent reliever, and he has options remaining. Maybe a trade is on the way, because he was hardly the most expendable player on the Mariners' roster. Apr. 1 - 10:55 pm et
Only 21 years old, Carvajal is 6-4 and only 165 pounds. His body frame suggests he has plenty of room to fill out and maybe gain a few mph on his mid-90's fastball. He compliments his fastball with an improved slider and a changeup. 2003 Baseball America scouting report on Marcos: Carvajal touches 97 mph and sits in the low 90s with good movement. His slider is below-average at this point, though his feel for a changeup is encouraging.
This is another guy I think Krivsky should target. The potential is there for Wayne to improve the pitching of this club by acquiring Vince Perkins and Carvajal, and for a relatively cheap price too. Make us proud Wayne.
