Is this something new in high school sports? Are high school coaches allowing top players to hit with wooden bats in games to get used to the next level, or show what they've got? I think Justin Upton was another one that said he used woods bats in high school, and I was surprised by that as well. I think my HS coach would have beat me if I would have asked him to hit with a wood bat in HS, and my HS coach was pretty "old school."
