No reason not to hit with a wood bat in batting practice at the high school level, especially if you've shown enought talent to be drafted. If you can hit with a wood bat, you can hit with aluminum.
If my kids show any propensity to play the game at a higher level they will be hitting with wood bats for sure.

True to the game comment.
We messed around with wood bats in HS during batting practice and in the cage on our own. Knowing what I know now, I wish I would have hit more with wood bats in HS.
Same with my kids. My son (who is 7) actually wants to hit with a wood bat in games (he's still in coach pitch). Since I spent about $80 on a nice aluminum bat for him for Christmas, I'm going to hold off for now.
