The US Open is my least favorite of the majors. I understand what it's trying to do and why some people love it. It's just not my style. I live tough tests, but too often the US Open turns into golf of attrition, and it's just not enjoyable to watch, IMO.

1st tee shot in the fairway bunker of one of the few true birdie holes doesn't bode well for that.

Either way, I'll still predict an even round 70 for Mickeltits. Full disclosure, I'm a huge Phil fan so take it for what's it's worth.

If I were Tiger? No. Myself? I'd run to the clubhouse.

Yep, I love it for the same reason you dislike it. The best of the best have to play their best to get it done. I'll admit in the past the USGA has let the course get away from them and it's gotten unfair though.

Phil has played great over the first couple of days and hasn't scored. I just can't trust him on a course that can make you pay for mental mistakes like Merion can.

Schwartzel is in a great spot and definitely has the game to win, and obviously Rory and Tiger are right there, the crazy thing for those two is they haven't played particularly well yet. But if I were betting my choice would be Schwartzel.

Stricker can hang around on this golf course as easily as anyone, and with his putting, I'd say he has to be one of the favorites.

Would love to see Stricker win....maybe even more than Mickelson.

I'd like to see Stricker win, even though it looks like he has back pain when he swings.

Add me to those who'd like to see Stricker win. Good to see Phil going backwards. Hopefully that continues.

Well Stricker is going even further backwards.

Phil is rallying with birdies on 10 and 11. He is back under par again at 1-under. Donald and Schwartzel are the co-leaders at 2-under. They are the only three golfers under par at this point. Rory and Tiger are joined at the hip. They each shot 73-70 and are each 4-over through 14. Nine shots off the lead. That is a pretty deep hole with just over a round to go. I am pulling for Phil.

Phil birdies 17 and is tied for the lead at -2 with a hole to go in the third round. Moving day and Tiger moved back. 6 over for the day. 11 shots off the lead.

Correction: Donald just bogied. Phil all alone atop the leaderboard.

I agree totally. Nothing enjoyable about this kind of golf. It's like watching a Super Bowl that ends with a 3-0 score and the teams combine for 10 turnovers and 30 penalties.
