Rolen's legs are gone. He can go to LA.

I'd rather have Rolen than Heisey. But I agree with WOY. Bring him in to spring training, and let fate work it out.

I think Rolen would be a tad slow for CF.

Bring him to ST. It's good to have options in ST -- as the Reds found out last year with Ryan Madsen, you're one arm twinge or bad slide away from having to reshuffle your plans for an upcoming year.

I want Rolen back. Depth is extremely underrated in baseball (and almost all sports for that matter). What if Frazier gets hurt or doesn't perform? You comfortable with Jack Hannahan as the everyday 3B? Didn't think so. If Rolen is willing to sign for relatively cheap, I say let's do it. Hannahan can be the utility man (backup SS, backup 2B, etc).

Reds would still have Paul, Bruce and Choo to play center. And Heisey isn't a better option than any of them.

Heisey is by far our most important bench guy. It's not even close.

Really? Are you forgetting what Sept/Oct looked like? Rolen was completely worn out. He offered very little to this club. Simply put Heisey can stay healthy for the entire year; Rolen can't

Re: Fay: Rolen wants to play

There are at least five players who could become injured in spring training and make Rolen nice depth to have. I hope he doesn't mind coming on a minor league contract, though. I'm not worried so much about the money as I am the roster spot.

Too injury prone....even for a spot player. His mobility is gone. Sure, he's a great presence in the clubhouse, but not for that kind of money.

Would love to see him get into coaching, especially if he wants to continue to travel and live the baseball life.

But it's time to thank him and move on.

Really? I was under the impression that Chris was actually a capable CF, whereas those other three would be... adequate at best.

Sure he wants to play, sure no bat nice glove Hannahan makes 6 figures... but ST hasn't even started, this bubble thinking will start to pop once players get on the field and show they have nothing or something or break a bone, get a DUI or get traded.

Everyone can come to ST, only 25 get to leave at the end.
Tony LaRussa will be at ST???
