Interesting move. Maybe Mes starts out in AAA.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

He seems to be an photo negative version of Hanigan. He almost never walks but homers and drives in runs.
I would be very happy if this is for a minor league contract and he is this year's Navarro.

Lots of power, but an extreme mistake hitter. generally has no idea what is coming. I had him on my fantasy team two years ago.

I generally do NOT like catchers like that. I don't care about the guy's power I want him to recognize pitches so he can also recognize when he's behind the plate. There may not be a direct correlation, but in my head there is.

I really like this move. And it sounds like it's close to being a done deal.

I thought the catching depth was a bit thin. What if Mesoraco still isn't ready to provide quality production at the MLB level? What if Hanigan or Mesoraco get hurt? The next best option would have been Nevin Ashley (who?) or Corky Miller.

Getting a proven MLB catcher like Olivo would be big, IMO. And he's got some very-good pop; could really thrive hitting in GABP coming from Seattle's huge park.

LIke it. It would be a mistake to have Mes riding the bench for another season. Better for him to play regularly in AAA, catching Cingrani, Corcino et al.

Corky won't hit, but he's at least as good at handling pitchers as Hanigan, maybe better. Olivo is fodder. Maybe switching leagues helps him, but i doubt it. Dude hit 19 HR's and 19 doubles in 2011 and STILL had a sub .700 OPS.

    fodder.

    Interesting...

I'm guessing Olivo starts the season at AAA. His bat really went south in Seattle but, of course, it's a tough ballpark. His OBP and K/BB numbers are fairly awful, but his power has been good -- except the last two seasons.

I view Olivo as good depth, but I'm guessing Devin M still makes the club and Olivo begins at Louisville.

Does anyone actually think that Olivo is going to be on the REDS roster and not in Louisville playing platoon with Corky?

Perhaps, we're going back to the three catcher circus that worked so well for us back in '06.

At the very least, this is on par with the Dioner Navarro signing last year and that turned out very well. And the Reds were extremely fortunate that they didn't have any serious injuries at the catcher position, or Navarro would have been needed a lot more. Point being: you usually need 3 legit catchers to make it through an MLB season if you're a contender. The Reds now have three.

    I like.

(And to be clear, I'm talking about only 2 of them at a time on the MLB roster and one in AAA. None of this 3 catchers on the 25-man roster stuff. Haha.)

Considering us common folk don't have the inside scoop on Mes, it is not out of the realm of possibility.

Seriously, (for this year) I'd rather have Mes playing regular at AAA rather than 35 percent of the time in Cincy.

I guess it's an ok depth move, but i don't care how much the 3rd and 4th catchers hit, I care about how they handle pitching staffs. Miller has a great rep. Olivo, not as much.

I'd put him 4th on the chart... at best.
