#STLCards to hold 1:30 pm CT press conference to make a "baseball-related" announcement. You can watch presser live on http://MLB.com .

My informed speculation: Cardinals press conference will concern future of pitcher Chris Carpenter.
Speculation in Cards Country that Carp is going to be retiring.

    Cue the "son" jokes.

If what I'm hearing is true, my response will be "Shelby Miller, son, take the reigns and roll with the opportunity".

Like him or hate him, Carpenter was a heck of a competitor and was a great playoff pitcher. One of the best competitors I've seen wear the Birds on the Bat.

I would actually term him one of the worst competitors and poorest sports to ever wear a Cardinals uniform.

It's sad that someone with his talent had to be such a humongous jackass for his entire career.

You wouldn't feel that way if he pitched for the Reds. You're talking about a guy who pitched in 2011 the clinching game that put us in the playoffs, an epic game against Roy Halladay that clinched, the clinching game of the NLCS, and the clinching game in game 7 of the WS. No pitcher in the history of divisional play has done that in a single year. He has 10 wins in the post season. He's a guy who had a rib removed and came back early to try to pitch for his team. You don't have to like him and that's fine. However to say he's the worst competitors to ever wear a Cardinals uniform is ridiculous. It's esp. true when you had someone like Kip Wells pitch for the Cardinals organization, lol.

If he retires im sure the cards try to retain him in some capacity. Obviously there is very little love for carp here but it is well known that guy is an excellent leader and coach. Especially when dissecting film. He is apparently a wizard at catching cards pitchers and other teams pitchers tipping their pitches.

I think it also leaves open the option to resign Lohse.

Wonder if this will impact Carpenter's friend, Rolen.

YES! Bye-bye, Chrissy! Literally one of the worst whiners in all of sports.

I'm about 80% sure it's about Carp. If it's about Garcia, then it's equally as bad.

Darn, I wanted to see the Reds kick him around as he aged poorly.

"Chris Carpenter can't throw any more at this time. Will seek more medical opinions, but it is doubtful he will pitch in 2013 season."

Who's going to whine about the baseballs when the Cards come to Cincy now? Who's going to re-ignite a brawl and pretend he did nothing now? I will miss him like I miss all the other mules that I no longer have to see...

There's a difference between competitiveness and just being an ass. Carpenter was/is both.
