Dusty will be tempted to put him in the lineup.

Seriously though, he's kind of guy who needs to be in the organization and is a likely manager someday.

Miguel was down in it the last few years, he should be a decent observer for Walt.

Good for him! Really nice guy and I think he'd be a fantastic manager someday.

I remember seeing Cairo in the clubhouse in his first spring training with the Reds and thinking I hope he makes the team because he was just such a cool guy. He was completely professional, always working on something, making his teammates laugh, being great with fans, especially kids, and just being positive the whole time.

    Very happy with this move

....In all seriousness, I like this move. Hopefully Rolen ends up in the FO or on the field in some sort of coaching capacity in the near future.

I have a similar story. Soon after camp broke that same year (2010, I think) my wife and I were in the diamond seats for a home game in mid April. For the life of me I could not figure out why Cairo was on that roster. Such a waste of a roster spot. Until we sat in those seats that night....

You can obviously see nearly unimpeeded (sp?) directly into the dugout and due to the sparce crowd you could hear a lot as well.

His effect on that dugout was incredible. Everything mentioned in the post above can be copied and pasted here. So unbelievably professional in everything he did. From that moment on, I never had a single problem with him being on the active roster.

Plus we should never forget that in 2010, Cairo played a HUGE role in that team getting to the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. He was such a great injury fill in that summer.

    Couldn't agree more!

He may also be the early leader to take over for Dusty someday.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Love this move -- I was wondering if something like it might happen. Also, love the stories of what folks have seen in person from Miggy. Great addition to the front office/mgmt side of the Reds.

I wouldn't go that far. I think Dusty will retire in the very near future. It'll happen way too soon for someone with zero coaching/managing experience to take the reins. But I could see Miggy coaching down the line, so that I agree with.
