If you read the thread title, this wasn't limited to the Marlins or Stanton. It just went that direction.

Re: If the Reds decided to trade Chapman for equal value before April 1

My natural inclination is to minimize risk.
Reading an article like the one circulating
regarding Chapman would drive me, if I were
WJ, to investigate options, and if I could move
AC for what I felt was close to his value
as the premier 2012 NL closer, I pull the trigger.
    I like the current Reds.
I'll like them equally as well exchanging AC for
    equal value.
What would be criminal, imo. is to sit pat, unless
I could find no trading partner(s).
The question becomes, what constitutes *Close*
    enough?

Let's do a poll sort of:

If you wouldn't trade AC before ST, no matter what,
    don't comment, further.
If you are nervous and would seek a trade for close to his
2012 value as the elite NL closer, with a willing partner.
who would it be with and for what players.

If you read the original post, it DID get brought up.

It's been brought up on a gazillion started threads. "Chapman for Stanton"....."What would it take to get Stanton". But the topic also allowed for some other trade possibilities.

I'd like to know what people think is equal value for Chapman? Don't even entertain a trade. Just list one guy or two guys you think would be equal in value to Chapman, out of curiosity.

Jason Heyward. Young, team controllable, flashes of brilliance but unpredictable over his career. All the potential in the world if it gets put together.

The only two players that could theoretically be available that I would trade Chapman for are Stanton (of course...I've been pushing that trade for years) and David Price.

Naturally there are players like Trout, but that's a dream at this point.

    Spring training week one

Trading Chapman isn't going to happen this year especially with the signed OFs in camp

Might as well discuss Chapman's two piece in the SI swimsuit issue it's just as likely to happen

If I'm not mistaken Aroldis didn't make the top 50 in fangraphs trade value rankings last year. Now trade value is in the eye of the beholder and I'm sure several players on the list would be willingly swapped for Chapman right now. But it does speak to the fact that until he shows MLB success as a starter, we don't know for sure it will work out. (I do want him to start)

A guy who has never started an MLB game, only pitching in relief, is gonna see his value reflect that.

Why the heck would anyone trade him?
How about we talk about the crazy brilliant plan that the reds will have in place to limit his innings and to have him pitch in the playoffs

Not sure. But there is probably a Jim Bowden Fan Club in existence too.

The thing about great pitching is you really can never have enough. MLB pitchers who pitch consistently all season long are the exception, not the rule. When one goes down, it pays to have another hungry, young one waiting in the wings. Mike Leake may spend part of this season in the bullpen or AAA, but I'm sure he'll be needed in the Reds rotation at some point. Outperforming one of Cueto, Chapman, Latos, Bailey, or Arroyo is his only choice if he wants to stay in the rotation.

I don't see any way they trade Chapman, unless they get Stanton-like value in return, which they won't. He puts butts in the seats, and he's a talking point. He also happens to be a very effective reliever who is a little streaky at times.

I'm still not sold on him becoming a starter until he develops a curve or a decent changeup. We'll see how it goes... If it goes that way.

    I wouldn't mind Simmons either.
