You forgot one requirement. Player can simply spell the name of the country he wishes to represent. If he can point to it on a map he gets to start.

Now we know why Liechtenstein doesn't have a team.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

He qualifies for the Italian roster, apparently, by having a vowel at the end of his last name.

Well my thought when asking the question actually was, "I guess George Constanza has just as much claim to be on the Italian team as Constanzo does."

And based on that dinger he hit in that softball game, he just might be an upgrade...

    Wow. It really was.

From what I could tell Votto stayed on the periphery for the most part.

This might be the biggest baseball fight I've ever seen. Votto stayed out of it thankfully. A Mexico fan threw some sort of item onto the field and hit one of the coaches from Canada in the head.

Tyson Gilles (Phillies) and Alfredo Aceves (Red Sox) were throwing punches. Oliver Perez had to be restrained as well.

Crazy fight. Iorg threw something back into the stands at the fan who hit his coach.

Oh my goodness, that fight was nuts! Count me as another who is VERY thankful that Joey stayed out of it (he seemed to be alternately watching out for and checking on his teammates to make sure everyone was okay). I guess the players do care about these games!

Re: In Defense of the WBC

They need to change the format to discincentivize running up the score. Also, that Robinson guy was nuts the whole game with his take-out slides at second. His bunt in the 9th was just the tip of the iceberg. There's so much talk about trying to protect catchers from home plate collisions, but I'm convinced we're going to see a compound fracture of some 2nd baseman's leg before we see the next Posey-like injury at the plate. Matt Holliday, Matt Kemp or some big dude like that is going to break a Marco Scutaro or Darwin Barney into two pieces.
