Reds:
Pete Smith (46) - One of the rare Brave pitchers from that era who didn't pan out. His Reds year was '95. Perhaps I'm showing my age, but I could never hear his name without thinking of the Pete Smith that made movie shorts back in the '30s and '40s... the guy with the nasal voice who used to say "Is that what's bothering you, Bunky?" Oh forget it- you're all too young. Even an oldster such as I only remembers them from seeing them on TV.
Greg Cadaret (50) -Reds lefty in '93, and subject of one of the great Berman nicknames: Greg "Life Is A" Cadaret...
Connie Ryan -Reds 2b in '50 and '51. Discovered Vida Blue for the A's while scouting his home state of Louisiana. As third base coach for the Braves, he was the first person to shake Hank Aaron's hand after he broke the HR record...I gues he didn't officially break it until he crossed home plate, but you get what I'm saying...
Others:
Anibal Sanchez (28) -Has quietly become a fine starter for the Marlins, although he's coming off of a bad second half of 2011.
Matt Stairs (44) -Has played for 12 different teams...Hit 23 pinch-hit homers, a record....Coaches hockey in the off-season.
Cy Perkins -Catcher with the A's until he was displaced by Mickey Cochrane; he hung around as a backup and worked with Cochrane on his receiving skills. Later he mentored a young Robin Roberts.
