    Padres acquire

Padres acquire Alex Torres and Jesse Hahn for Logan Forsythe, Brad Boxberger, two Matts and a Maxx

After also including pitching prospect Jesse Hahn in the deal, the Rays got four other players back: right-handed pitchers Brad Boxberger, Matt Andriese and Matt Lollis, plus infielder Maxx Tissenbaum.

    Hmmmm.

So these teams that feel they are good but could be better, they call each other up and trade players between them in the hopes of improving for the upcoming year?

    Interesting.

    Padres win that deal IMO.

To me this is a trade between two teams that felt left out of the action and felt they needed to do something. I really see NO improvement for either team. They made a trade just so they could say that they made a trade.

Thank goodness Walt is smart enough to avoid these kinds of deals.

I think the Padres made a good quantity for quality deal. They added an immediate upgrade to their pen in Torres and a guy who should be a future major leaguer in Hahn. I think the guys they gave up are mostly going to be AAAA players and fringe guys. I wish the Reds could make a deal like that. Beats the heck out of paying $3 or $4 Million on the market for a lefty.

When I first glanced at this I thought it said the Padres acquired Jessica Hahn.

Not me. I thought Latos was a great deal for the Reds. Probably Walt's best move as Reds GM. Now need to sign him long term.

The Latos deal was the "Herschal Walker" trade of baseball, remember?

Jim Bowden stamped that deal with his disapproval and the rest is history.
