    Remember this guy?

    Wladimir Balentien

    http://bis.npb.or.jp/eng/players/13315133.html

That's a lot of home runs in two seasons... plus 25 at AAA for the Reds the year before.

I really have no idea why the Reds sold his contract to Yakult.

This is how tired I am of talking about Mike Leake and Aroldis Chapman.

I don't know how a .247/.330/.447 in Japan translates to MLB, or why he played in 35 fewer games in 2012 but 31 HR each of the last two years in LF doesn't sound terrible.
What if this is as good as it gets?

I was intrigued by him, thought he'd be getting serious starts a couple of years back.

    Also by his name. "WL"adimir? "V"ladimr? "L"adamir with a silent W?

I remember doing a lot of complaining in 2009 over guys like Darnell McDonald getting at-bats over Balentien.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

"Vladimir". Not 100% sure about Dutch, but in German the "v" sound is spelled with a w and pronounced as such. The letter v is actually pronounced with an "f" sound, so if he spelled it with a v it would be pronounced "Fladimir."

    Re: Remember this guy?

I enjoyed watching Wladdy play in 2010 with Louisville. He seemed very close to Juan Francisco, I think he was a good mentor for him. They both went on an incredible home run tear at the same time in late July of that season, and the Bats would win 20 out of 21 games in that time. Just like with Louisville, Wladimir has hit a couple of incredibly long "video game" home runs, I will post some videos of them tomorrow. They are quite entertaining, especially if you have never seen Japanese baseball, with the synchronized umbrella dances and mascot high fives.
