Never too early to look at teams the Reds might be fighting for a wild card berth with. Big blow to the Nats.

He is terrified of the first half pitchers.
Was he hustling enough for Williams when he hurt it?

From Will Carroll earlier today:
In best available study, HEAD FIRST slides had 3.53/1000 injury rate. FEET FIRST slides had 7.31/1000, over double!

I'd be interested in seeing the amount of missed time from that study.

Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.

Yeah. Don't know why players do it either. Especially going to 1B. Running through is faster. But unfortunately, a majority of players actually believe it is faster. I've always believed (read) that it actually breaks your momentum and slows you down.
Numerous studies have shown it may be faster, though the difference is not significant, nor conclusive. What is conclusive is that its far more dangerous...

Sliding into first base, in any fashion, for any reason other than to avoid the tag on a throw up the line, is dumb.
Head first slides into other bases make it easier to slide away from the tag and get the base with the hand. Going feet first away from the bag, and reaching with the hand is tougher. Also the feet/legs/torso have to pass the base before the hand can reach it.
Injuries happen in baseball even when playing "smart".

Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted.
