No. I don't trade someone who is shown they can be one of the best in the game. Trout has shown that too for a season. I do not do it if I am the angels either. Fans already have an invested interest in both guys. A lot more to consider than just the raw numbers. Maybe neither guy would enjoy playing in the other city and maybe the other guys in clubhouse would hate the new guy. You don't mess with something when it is already so great....either side.

Yes; I wouldn't have to think twice. Over the next 10 years, Trout is a better bet to outproduce Votto straight up. And the you factor in the contracts, it's a total no-brainer.

You put Trout in CF, Choo to LF, Ludwick to 1B.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I am fairly shocked at how many people would do this trade.

Factor in Trout was able to put up those numbers in the AL West parks and imagining what he could put up playing in the NL Central parks, easy yes for me.

I think in 5 years I don't want to paying Albert's salary and why I'd do Votto and Trout I'm a sucker for a middle of the field/middle of the order guy over 1b any day of the wee for I am a NL fan through thick and thin... speed and defense up the middle.

Hamilton is the gamble, but I like the odds of him having some impact for sure... unsure of the magnitude

Not really an issue here, but is WAR adjusted for each league? Otherwise it being a counting stat, wouldn't AL guys have an opportunity to get a higher WAR simply because there are more "plays" due to more scoring?

Let's not treat Trout like he just had a good year. He had one of the all-time great seasons in MLB history. Not exactly Bob Hamelin territory.

Here's the list of 5 WAR seasons for players age 20 and younger:

Mike Trout isn't likely to be as good in 2013 as he was in 2012. I would still pull that trigger all day every day. Yeah, Trout isn't under control as long, but that doesn't concern me really. You still get 5 full seasons of him for what, 2 years worth of what Votto will be making?

Yes, please. Like Doug said you are going to be saving tons of money over the next five years. That money can go to extending Bailey and/or Latos. Or adding talent. And if Trout walks after five years you get a first-round draft choice. Also, you will have the 25 million a year that you will not be paying Joey Votto to add talent with. Finally, as much as I would like to believe that the Reds will field playoff-caliber teams ad perpetuam, they just might not. It might turn out to be a repeat of the Griffey situation where the team is using a large chunk of its payroll on one player without reasonable expectations of being in the postseason. Is a team such as the Reds really able to forecast more than five years down the road?
