Lots of speculation (from ESPN) about #Reds and Lohse. Jocketty: "Who? Why? We couldn't afford him." #cincienquirer

That quote is pretty hilarious to me.

"Will the Reds sign Bruce Broomcloset?"

"Who? Why? We couldn't afford him."
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

The bad Kyle Lohse is basically the everyday Mike Leake.

I fear the good Kyle Lohse will be pitching against us for some other contender.

May be stupid but I I think Leake will be better this season, and is far less expensive.

I really don't like paying premium prices for "bad."

What reason is there to believe that Lohse will be bad this season (or even below average for that matter)?
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. I'd prefer Rick Porcello.

Lohse would not be bad if you could get him reasonably for one season. I don't think he will be had reasonably. There are plenty of previous seasons to justify a belief that Lohse could possibly be bad again.

Because he has more upside and won't cost us our first-round pick- or $13M/year. Tigers need bullpen help. If Chapman is really headed back to the 'pen, we have bullpen help to spare.

I think Porcello would be equal to or greater than both Lohse and Leake right now. I think he could be even better in 2014 and 2015.

I like buying low on faded prospects. We could probably even find a way to make it money neutral or even positive (ie Masset and Hoover), then flip Leake to the Padres for prospects (Austin Hedges seems redundant for them with Grandal).

I'd like him better if he were left handed.
