    1. George Foster's 1977: .320/52 HRs/149 RBI. The only guy to go 50+ HRs between Willie Mays and Cecil Fielder.

1a. Mariano Rivera: He has piled up 141.0 post-season innings in his career. That's close to a season and a half of work for a reliever. His post-season numbers are mind-numbing: 96 Games, 527 TBF, 0.70 ERA.

And that's been solely against either the AL wildcard or another AL division champ.

    Re: Greatest individual season?

I think one of the more underrated best seasons is Stan Musial's 1948 season.

    .376 BA, .450 OBP, .702 SLG, 1.152 OPS, 200 OPS+ (all NL leading stats).

The two most interesting parts of that season is the insanely low 34 strikeouts and 429 total bases. It may have not been the greatest season of all time but I can't think of many players that had great seasons who had that many total bases. As great as Ted Williams was, he didn't even have a 400+ total base season.

That said, I think my favorite season (not secondarily the best) is Ted Williams 1957 season. The stats themselves are mind boggling but what was impressive about that season to me is that he was 38 years old at the time he accomplished it.

Also, you could put any number of Rogers Hornsby's seasons up there whether it be in 1924 where he finished the season with a .424 BA, 1922 where he had an ungodly 450 total bases, or 1925 where he slg'd 756. Pretty impressive for a 2B.
