Wherever Chapman pitches, the Reds are the best team in baseball, imo.

I truely believe the regular season is going to be a cakewalk. Which is why, this season would be the perfect season to try chapman in the rotation.

Reds are going to win the division by double digits.

The only way to know for sure was to try it.

    Now we can't know.

Really? Man, I hope you are right, but I don't think it will be a cakewalk.

You miss the point if you don't look beyond the numbers in making this decision. The fact that he didn't want to start has to be a factor here. Add in that it appears Dusty didn't want him to start and I think we have something that overwhelms any numbers

Or, you know look at his secondary pitches and decide he'd need minor league time, or at least a full season to develop. Meanwhile this years window closes.

The Reds are the only team in the division that really upgraded in the offseason.

St Louis, who is the only competition, is already having injury issues.

Even if I'm wrong, and it's closer than I think, with having two wild card teams the odds of the Reds not making the playoffs at all is very small.

Which is why this year is the year to do it.

Like I said above, I'm predicting a cake walk.

Elite closers, when used properly in high leverage situations, are far more valuable than just averge closers. In high leverage situtions, the game is on the line basically every time. An elite closer who can be effective in just five more of these games than an average closer is worth 5 wins above not just replacement, but above average. That's huge.

Now, the way Dusty manages, that's probably moot. But in theory, elite closers should be real difference makers over just average closers.
You do realize that just 1 ER in those games, would be 5 ER. For a guy throwing say 65 innings that is the difference between a 2.50 and a 3.20 ERA. The odds that a guy giving up 25% of the runs he allows all season to randomly happen in 1 run games are not too good. Theoretically possible, but incredibly unlikely.

Season starts soon, Chapman pitched how many innings this spring?

Was he even ready to start a game in the regular season at this point?

Then the whole thing was a sham from the beginning?

    Why even do that?

To mess with all the pitching coaches at home?

Prior to the decision 8 ip and 4 ks.

Maybe his arm wasn't ready just yet. I don't know myself, I only play a pitching coach at home myself

WOY, you never gave your opinion on what to do with Chapman.

I know you have one. I won't tell anyone.

I've said often I'm disappointed with the decision.

But on the sunny-side, this is one good looking bullpen. Like shortening a game to 6 innings if they want to good. (Granted I'm a Broxton fan)

If Hoover is as good as he looks, they can shorten it to five innings.
