Paul Daugherty's new title should be "Official Reds Rumorer"

I hope we use him as a two inning closer if this is true.

Why trump his current title "Most ineffectual baseball writer in Cincinnati"?

It must be a shared honor. I heard Fay do an interview on MLB channel the other day and it was just embarrassing.

You can never have enough starting pitching. And as I previously stated, Hoover was primarily a starting pitcher in the Braves minors with good results. He's going to Louisville, so might as well get the most value out of him by having him work on his starting pitching game. We already know he can work out of the bullpen.

I just feel Hoover has the stuff to be a starter and Chapman doesn't have that mentality.

Glad you aren't in charge then. It was pretty clear to me when they acquired Hoover that he was a great candidate for the pen. He's exactly the type of player, actually (AAAA starter) that can win you games cheaply by converting to shorter innings. Chapman, OTOH, may eventually not be a good starter, but I don't think ANYONE is basing it PURELY on his mentality (thank goodness).

Agreed. The guy makes more typos than I did when one of my arms was broken.

I'm just an excellent evaluator of talent. And I just know that Hoover will make a good starter, or will improve his trade stock by putting up good numbers as a Louisville starter.

I felt they should see if Chapman could start, but I never thought he'd make a good starter.

I don't always make player evaluations. But when I do, I drink Dos Equis.

Not sure why everyone is up in arms if Chapman remains the closer. Sure it'd be nice to see what he potentially could do as a starter, but at the same time, we've already seen what he does do as a closer. Ask any Yankee fan if they'd give up Rivera pitching the 9th inning of a 1 run game in the world series just to see what he could do in the first six innings every fifth day. I bet they'd laugh their ass off.
    Is it "next season" yet?

The feud that has been quietly simmering within the Reds’ brain trust for months is about to come to a head; a decision on whether left-hander Aroldis Chapman begins the season in the rotation or returns to the closer role that he filled so well last season should be coming soon. General manager Walt Jocketty’s plan from the time he signed Chapman was to have the Cuban works as a starting pitcher. However, Chapman became the closer out of necessity last season when Ryan Madson blew out his elbow in spring training, and he pitched so well that manager Dusty Baker doesn’t want to take him out of that role.

“It’s a classic case of the general manager/manager divide,” said one NL front-office type. “The GM has to balance the present with the future in order for the organization to have long-term success, but most managers are only worried how they can win today’s game. I have a feeling this is going to get ugly if Walt decides to keep Chapman as a starter. Walt and Dusty have always struck me as kind of an odd coupling, and this could really strain their relationship.”

You realize that Hoover only started 18 games above A ball. The Braves had converted him to reliever before the Reds traded for him.
