I'm a huge hanigan fan. But this is getting out of hand.

As a catcher I value the pitcher/catcher relationship over stats any day of the week, but there comes a time where change is needed.

Hanigan is off to a terrible offensive start. It's time mes gets his shot. Only catching 1-5 games isn't helping anyone.

Do other #1 catchers for other teams catch every game without getting a break? You can't just have mes as the backup just in case something happens. You have to work him in and get him comfortable at this level of play.

Who's to blame? Is this dusty? Is this Walt? Do the pitchers have more say than we think they do?

Mes is starting today. And I'm assuming he'll start on Friday with Leake going. Here's your chance, kiddo.

And if you don't do well in a two game sample size, back to one start through the rotation.

Unfortunately, that's just the way it goes sometimes.

However, If he starts friday, combined w/ starting today, there's a good chance he'd start sunday's game (I'm assuming a day game after a night game, haven't looked at game times yet) which would give him 3 games in 4 days, so a little better.

Hanigan started last week night and day games back to back, so it wouldn't shock me to see it again, especially if somehow Hanigan sits Wed/Thu/Fri because Mesoraco gets the starts and the off day.

I see your line of thought, but what would the Reds hypothetically trade Mes for?

Maybe a LF that would be an upgrade to Hiesey, who would have to ride the bench next year if Ludwick is healthy? I don't think trading Mes for a one year LF rental would be popular.

A 5th starter? (which would bump Leake and waste him)

I guess I don't see a glaring need to trade Mes for.. I'm not going to trade him for prospects and degrade our ML depth.

I guess since we're purely hyptothetical here, we could discuss Mes + Cozart for A Caberra and moves like that.. but those big moves are kind of difficult to pull of at this time of the year, and most like that would involve the Reds taking on salary.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

I think a good day at the plate today will get more starts for Mes - especially if Hanigan continues to struggle at the plate.

Doug, could there be a connection between whatever happened off-the-field at the end of last year that you were privy to, and Mes not getting much PT this year?
