Mesoraco caught Arroyo late in the spring and Dusty said it was because guys can't catch day games after night games. Then the first day game after a night game we see Hanigan catching Arroyo after catching the night before. Ok, it is early. Now we are 4 starts in and Mesoraco hasn't seen a start, much less an at bat after being arguably the best hitter in the spring. I really hope he is sick, or dealing with a small injury or something, because otherwise I just don't get it. Mesoraco has been on the Reds roster every day since September 2nd, 2012. This makes 32 games since then. Mesoraco has 0 starts and 3 at bats.

The fact that Mes hasn't had an AB yet, even with an extra inning game, tells me he's probably not healthy right now. I'm surprised the crack bear reporters haven't asked Dusty about this yet.

I will assume there will be a day when Mez can play every day and help anchor a winning lineup, but I don't know how long I can wait to find out. I really want to see some action from this kid. This feels like the Frazier / Alonso plan again. Patience.

If it turns out Mes is hurt and that's why he hasn't been used, then please forget most of this, but ...

This is exactly why I wanted Mes to play in Louisville. Go down there, play every day, get hundreds of at-bats, and try to knock the door down. And this isn't a knock on Dusty either. There was a big gap between Hanigan and Mes last season. I understand why Hanigan emerged as the clear starter and why he would hold that spot coming into this season. Mes hasn't done anything to change that. Forget spring training stats. They are meaningless. This is a great example of why making decisions based on spring training numbers is so dumb -- especially when it comes to the future of a promising young player. So he put up numbers in the spring? Big deal. He wasn't going to be the starter. So why waste his time? See the big picture.

If we're keeping Chapman in the pen 'cause it ain't broke, then why are we fixin' the catching situation (3 for Hanigan, 2 for Mes) that worked last year?
