You're correct. Logan was sent to Pensacola although I'm guessing it's just a roster thing and he'll wind up in Louisville. I misread it at first.

Izturis looked much better this spring than I had expected. I think he will be a very positive addition.

So we can watch Parra walk guys instead of Arredondo.

I agree. I'm not getting the love for Parra. But to be honest, neither are world beaters. Jose had some really great numbers prior to becoming a Red, but since he's been pretty pedestrian. But if he's corrected the BB's like it seemed he had this spring, he's due for a substantial turn-around. Put it bluntly, Jose has upside...Parra doesn't.

Yeah, but Koufax is retired and didn't fit in the salary structure. It's fine, the Reds have five very effective relievers. It's truly a fine bullpen.

Izturis is a rarity - a Cincinnati Reds switch hitter.

Reds now have Choo, Votto, Bruce, Paul, Hannahan from the left side. And Izturis switch hitting. Much, much more balance than last year.

How so? Why does Parra have no upside? He struck out 9.5 guys per nine innings last year. He had surgery two years ago and is coming back. Why no upside?

Arrendondo corrected his walks this spring? In 12.2 innings he walked 6. Not much of a correction.

    Whatever.

I can't see any reason whatsoever to keep Parra over Arredondo if that turns out to be the case.

You have to look long and hard for something that Parra does better than Arredondo.

Maybe they actually think Masset will be back at some point?

I mean they're gonna lose (be forced to trade) Arredondo, right?

I don't get why I have to like a reliever with control issues because the rest of the bullpen is fine.

Parra is a LHP who also has trouble getting RHBs out. But he is a lefty.

Look at Parra's numbers against lefties last season, his first out of the bullpen. That's as far as you need to look.

Maybe the scouts did look long and hard?

Look, I'm a stats guy, but Parra has historically been used as a SP and has dealt with injury. There aren't stats out there for us to properly use.

Plus, I'm not gonna get so worked up about the last spot in the bullpen between two players with roughly equal upside...

He's got no business as a long reliever. I'm hoping Lecure gets a lot of the multi-inning assignments as he's one of the best in business in that role. IMO, long man is not a throwaway assignment and I'd like to Lecure get used a bit like Scott Sullivan back in the day.
Quoted for truth. Simply being able to pitch multiple innings is meaningless if you add fuel to the fire while you are on the mound. The long man needs to hold the opponent and allow the bats a chance to get back into the game.
