    Missing Opening Day Sympathy Thread

This is the sob story thread for those who have to miss OD this year.

As for myself, I'll be in class until 5:25. Might get to see a bit of the parade at lunch, and should be home by 6 to catch the end of the game, but usually OD is a big holiday for me. Parents would let me skip high school classes for it, but not college. No, no.

But that said, I'm sure there are those who have to miss the whole game, or have had to for years, so please, commiserate here.

    And, oh, Happy Easter, Redszone!

First time I've had to do anything since 2001. Always got away from high school and college and work until this year. Just such unusual circumstances with work not thrilled with it but oh well.

I had a ticket, but no one at work would cover for me. The good news is that I got a 35% raise and sold my ticket for profit.

I've gotten to see ONE opening day Reds game in around 20 years. Between them not televising it and me usually having to work, the odds aren't good. I've gotten to listen to the last 3 or 4 at least.

Back in the day, teachers would wheel a tv into the classroom to watch, rather then battle for attention with those of us who would run the earpiece wire from our pocket transistors down our sleeves. We'd all sit there, one elbow on the desk, concealing the earpiece by propping our heads with our hands.

I've been to one in my entire life, the game where Dunn homered off Looper, and then Joe Randa hit the walk-off homer.

It's fun but it's just not worth the cost to me for only one game. If you go to the second game it's usually half empty and you can walk up and buy tickets at the normal price.

I will miss this year. I get off at 5:00 and will listen to Marty and Joe on my way home and then watch the last 5 innings at home. Yeah, yeah I know Marty and the Cowboy...eh.

I have been to three Opening Days: '89 Big Paul O'Niell beat the Dodgers by himself, '99 Tomko got lit up by the Giants, and '03 opened GABP with a blowout loss to the Pirates. The last time I had Opening Day tickets I had to miss for my grandmother's funeral. I may try again next year. Who knows?

I don't get off work until 6pm. It'll be 7 by the time I get home. Maybe I'll catch the very end. *sigh*
