    Reds sign Zach Duke

Former longtime Pirate pitcher Zach Duke is now appearing on the Louisville Bats roster. Good depth, especially if Reynolds leaves.

    Couldn't get Zane Smith?

I'd have rather they signed Sir Duke. Atleast the music would be enjoyable.

He's a lefty, isn't he? It might be that the Reds are trying to find some lefty bullpen depth.

The Nationals signed Duke in early December to a guaranteed contract worth $700,000. Duke had gone 15-5 at Class AAA Syracuse in 2012 and pitched well in a September call-up, convincing Nationals to call him back up. He began the season as the Nationals’ only left-handed reliever but could not make a successful transition putting up an 8.71 ERA over 20 2/3 innings. Left-handed batters hit .448 against him.

Is this a subtle hint that they don't expect Marshall to be back any time soon?

I think you are smelling the coffee, txdave. However, I might word it like this...

Is this a fairly obvious move to see if a MLB vet LH pitcher can find it and be used in LOOGY situations (IMO) out of the pen.... JUST IN CASE Marshall has more setbacks and does not come back anytime soon?

We should wait to hear from the FO if Marshall does not come back anytime soon. Too early to start that guessing game. Most teams let us know fairly soon after a diagnosis/decision is made by the FO.

He can't be worse than Parra, can he?

That takes some of the sting out of today's loss.

Not every move can be for Babe Ruth or Walter Johnson.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Yes he can. He was very bad in DC this season. I hope this move was just to give Louisville some depth and a warm body. If he ever sees the 25 man roster the Reds are in bad trouble.
