My heart wants to see this, my brain is conflicted. It sure would be a lot of pressure on Billy.

4 of the first 5 hitters are lefties, too.

If they really went with Hamilton, (and I don't think they do) Dusty would probably put him down in the order at first to remove pressure. Put him in front of Hanigan probably.

No matter how cool it would be to see that lineup, he's not ready and it won't happen.

    Ugh. I feel sick.

My only hope is that the Reds are really all in and willing to make a deal.

Any interest whatsoever in Alfonso Soriano (as long as the Cubs eat almost all the money).

    Ludwick to 15 day DL

Ryan Ludwick has been placed on the 15 day DL after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right shoulder

Soriano and Choo in LF and CF would lead to the pitching staff going on strike.

So the Opening Day lineup lasts all of one game intact.

I think a trade is the best route. There's just no one in-house that should be hitting behind Joey Votto in the cleanup spot.

You aren't going to acquire one on day two of the season either. At least not without massively overpaying.

Re: Ludwick injury - dislocated shoulder

As far as the Reds should be concerned, Ludwick's season is done. Shoulder surgery means he's likely to be out several months. Plus, even if he did make it back later in the season, one has to wonder what this will do to Ludwick's power, both short term and long term. This is the type of injury that could dry Ludwick's power right up, and given that power is his game at the plate it could put his career as a bonafide power threat in serious jeopardy.

Whatever contingency plan the Reds may have drawn up for not having Ludwick this year, they better pull it out and start figuring things out quick.

I'm not worried. This team lost its best player last year and proceeded to play the best baseball in all of MLB. Hate to lose Ludwick for any appreciable time, but these Reds have proven to be resilient.

Re: Ludwick injury - dislocated shoulder

As much as I would like to see some speed in our lineup, Hamilton is not ready by a long way. He had a lot of trouble just making contact in ST. Lutz is not an outfielder. If there is no possibility of getting Stanton from Miami, how about Willingham from Minnesota. The Twins opening day starter was Vance Worley. That doesn't say a whole lot about their chances to compete this year. Maybe they would do a Corcino, Leake, and Lutz for Willingham?

Re: Ludwick injury - dislocated shoulder

I am almost in favor of letting Billy Hamilton learn on the job. Just my guess but I bet he is down until the Allstar break at the earliest. I kind of like this

    Choo
    Hamilton
    Votto
    Phillips
    Bruce
    Frazier
    Cozart
    Mesigan
